Opportunity:
- Learn how to start a farm, through full in-depth hands on learning while experiencing the day to day operations of a farm
- Depending on the apprentice there is opportunity for an experienced apprentice to start their own farm venture on the farm while having access to tools and supports to help make it a success
- There will be opportunities for other learning experiences outside your position
- Opportunity to advance in our farm, we are looking to hire a CSA manager and will look at employees and apprentices first during the hiring process
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Maintain, harvest, and market produce
- Caring for livestock and maintaining pastures
- Learn about direct marketing by working in the market and distributing CSA’s
- Assisting in agro tourism activities
- Processing chickens
- To keep breeding, feeding, starting and harvesting records (including feed making)
- To design and carry a project from start to finish (only for early starting apprenticeships)
- To develop a personal work portfolio
General Farm hand: (see full posting here)
Tasks:
- Maintain harvest and pack produce
- Care for livestock
- Maintain pastures
- Work in the market and distribute CSA’s
- Assist in agro tourism activities
Responsibilities:
- To keep breeding, feeding, starting and harvesting records
- To record work time
- To fill out evaluation forms
- To attend weekly team group meetings
- To attend monthly evaluation meetings
- To plan design and carry out a project from start to finish
- To develop a personal work portfolio
- Work independently and as part of a team
CSA Manager:
- Will manage the summer succession planting for the csa
- Will be responsible for harvest planning and picking for the CSA (with help in the actual picking)
- Will be responsible for cleaning and packing plan for CSA
- Will be responsible for garden maintenance schedules
- Will be responsible for garden maintenance
- Will be responsible for ensuring maintenance of packing supplies
- Will be responsible for planning the rotation to be put in in the spring
- May be responsible for local CSA deliveries
- Will include other farm duties as needed
